A
Dubbo V.C. Swagman 13
September 1935 Western
Age (Dubbo, NSW) |
Carrying his swag, John Ryan, V.C., a
former private in the 55th Battalion, A.I.F., and a native of Dubbo (sic), where he
enlisted, (sic) walked into an
office in Mildura recently and asked for work. He had hiked from Balranald, and said he
had been on the road for four years. Ryan carries with him his army discharge,
which showed that he won his V.C. on the second day of the
last big
push near Bullecourt. His Cross was
one of the last won in the Great War. Mildura Council gave him a temporary
job right away, and he was also offered a permanent job in the town. |
