Death of Laurence Tutty

A particularly sad death occurred at the Tumut and District Hospital on Friday last at 1 a.m. when Laurence, the four-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Bob Tutty, of Newtown, Tumut, passed away as the result of diphtheria.  

The little chap had been suffering from a severe cold for about a week and had been in bed.

The father is away at work in the country during the week and the mother had to care for her other three small children as well. 

Their residence is situated on the out-skirts of the town and there are no close neighbors.

On Thursday night the boy suffered a bad choking turn, which caused Mix. Tutty to realise that her son needed urgent medical attention.

He was conveyed to the Tumut District Hospital, where an operation was immediately performed by Dr. Mason to insert tubes to enable the lad to breathe.

However, the ordeal was too great for the heart to withstand and the boy passed away that night. 

Deepest sympathy is felt for the bereaved parents in their sad loss.

Laurence was the second child and was a great favorite with all relatives and acquaintances of the family and had a very happy disposition.

The other children surviving are Margery, Jeanette and John. 

The funeral, which was largely attended, took place on Saturday afternoon last, interment taking place in the Catholic portion of the Tumut New Cemetery.

Rev. Fr. Commins offiated at the graveside, whilst Messrs. W. W. Beavan and Son had charge of the funeral arrangements.
