Boorowa lost a fine businessman and
townsman by the death of Mr. Charles E. Weeden,
which took place in the Boorowa District Hospital early last Saturday
evening, at the age of 75 years.  The late Mr. Weeden,
who had been in failing health for the past five months, was
admitted to Boorowa District Hospital on the Wednesday previous, and
although every medical skill was administered him he bore his illness
with Christian fortitude and passed peacefully away as stated above.  The late Mr. Weeden
came to Boorowa some 22 years ago and acquired the general store known
as Stevenson's Store on the east end of Boorowa. Later he moved to West Boorowa
and took over the emporium known as Cronin's Store, one of the best-known
business houses in Boorowa, which he successfully and actively conducted
until July last, when his health began to fail.  The passing of the late Mr. Weeden removes a member of a well-known and
highly respected family. He was the son of the late Mr.
John Weeden, of Tumut, where he was born.
During his association in Boorowa he took a particularly keen
interest in the welfare of the town's progress. He was a member of the Boorowa
Mechanics' Institute and a Director of the District Hospital Board, to
which he rendered valuable service. He was also a member of the Masonic
Lodge, to which he was organist for several years.  Being a staunch adherent of his faith
his work in the interest of his church was always of a most generous nature.
His death will be universally regretted
by a large circle of friends throughout the district.  The late Mr. Weeden
was twice married. His first wife. Miss Anne Davies, of Wollongong,
predeceased him in 1911, and his second wife, Miss Jessie Browne,
of Sydney, predeceased him in 1934. From the first marriage there were
three children - two sons and one daughter - namely W. J. Weeden (Elizabeth Bay), Charles H. (Boorowa). and daughter, Mrs. W. Alford (Coogee). He also leaves one brother, Harold (Tumut)
and five sisters - Mrs. Harman (Manly), Mrs. Storey (Junee), Mrs.
Maitland (Tumut), Cis (Guilford) and Mona (Sydney),
to whom sympathy is extended in their sad bereavement. Five grandchildren also survive.  He is also predeceased by two brothers
  - William, of Young; and Fred, of Tumut.  There were no issues from the deceased's
second marriage.    The funeral took place on Monday afternoon
last, when service was conducted by the Rev. A. T. Newton, of the
Methodist Church, when feeling references were made to deceased's fine
character and as a citizen. The funeral was largely attended by
sympathisers who paid their last respects to one whose kindly and
unassuming nature was one of his most endearing characteristics.  The service at the graveside, which took
place in the Methodist portion of the Boorowa cemetery, was again conducted
by Rev. Newton. The funeral arrangements were
carried out by Mr. O. J. Stuart, of Boorowa.  The pall-bearers were members of the
store staff, namely Messrs. M. Wood, N. Sheperd, A.
Malone and R. Grosvenor.  Many beautiful floral tributes covered
the casket and these were for warded by: His Loving Family; Jack, Irene
