of Mrs. Sarah Ivy Dowling 15

The news of the death at the Tumut and
District Hospital at 10-30 a.m. on Sunday of Mrs. Sarah Ivy Dowling, relict
of the late Mr. Frank Dowling, caused a shock to her many friends and relatives,
as to all outward appearances she had been in good health until a few days
prior to her demise. Deceased was ordered to. hospital by her medico on Wednesday last, put she was
beyond medical aid and she passed away on Sunday as stated. It was apparent that she had been in
failing health for the past two years. The late Mrs. Dowling, who was 58 years
of age, was a daughter of Mr. Harry Foster of 'Happy Vale,' Tumut, who
is now in his 94th year and was born at Tumut. After her marriage to Mr. Frank Dowling
they resided first at Blowering and then at
Tumut Plains, where pastoral pursuits were followed. Mr. Dowling predeceased her by 17
years and the only child of the marriage, Terence, died when five
years of age. After the death of her husband Mrs. Dowling
resided in Sydney for a number of years, returning to Tumut about eight years
ago to care for her aged parents. Mrs. Foster passed away about eighteen months
ago. Besides the aged father, there are two
brothers and seven sisters surviving, viz. Harry (Deniliquin) Aubrey
(Melbourne), Bella (Mrs. Naughton, Tumut), Lizzie
(Mrs. Waters, Sydney), Minnie (Mrs. E. Vickery, Tumut Plains), Elsie
(Mrs. O'Connor), Gladys (Mrs. Dobbie) and
Beatrice (Mrs. Crampton), all of Sydney. Two brothers, Arthur and Percy,
are deceased. The funeral took place yesterday after noon,
leaving from the Catholic Church for the Tumut New Cemetery, where interment
took place. |
