July 1949The Tumut and Adelong Times |
An emergency transport committee is to
be set up in Tumut today for the purpose of restricting the transport of
goods to those vital to the life of the community. It will be the duty of the committee
to assemble information concerning the number of vehicles available in Tumut
and district suitable for the transport of goods. It will be necessary to classify the vehicles
into local and long-distance haulage possibilities. When the system of replacing rail transport
with road vehicles, comes into operation fully it will the responsibility
of the committee to ensure economic loading of vehicles. Transport to and from Sydney appears
to be the main concern and special attention will have to be paid to
ensuring that full loads are obtained each way. |
