(Sydney) 18
September 1886 |
Tumut, Friday noon. Intense excitement is being manifested here over the passing of the
bill for the railway from Gundagai to Tumut, news of which was received at 12
o'clock last night. The brass band, with a large crowd of people, paraded the
town for the remainder of the night. Cheering for the member and Ministry was indulged in. Bottles of
champagne were consumed by the dozen until the crowd could no longer drink. This morning the town is gay with bunting. Flags line all the streets.
At 1 o'clock all the business places closed for the purpose of having a grand
parade. To-night a public meeting will be held to thank the Government. |
