The late John Gibbons, the victim of
the sad drowning fatality in the Tumut river on Wednesday, February 2,
was born at Shepparton, Victoria, on June 8, 1932, and was thus in his seventeenth
year. After living in Shepparton for a
while, Wagga became his next home and here John passed his school
days. He then went to Junee for twelve
months and had been in Tumut about another year, residing with Mr.
and Mrs. Fred Sutton, and being employed by Moses Bros, and later
by the Oxford Furnishing Co., where he was at the time of his
untimely demise. A quiet, steady, conscientious
lad John was liked by all who knew him and very sincere regret was
expressed that a boy of his type should be cut-off in the very beginning
of his young manhood. He is survived by his father, Mr.
John Gibbons, of Batlow, his step-mother, two brothers and a sister,
Robert Leslie and Jan, and a step-sister and three step brothers,
Joan, John, Colin and Ray.The funeral moved from
the Catholic Church Tumut on Thursday afternoon, Rev. Fr. Commins
officiating both in the church and at the graveside in the New Cemetery. Messrs. W. W, Beavan
and Son had charge of the arrangements. The pall-bearers were Merrs. F. Sutton, J. Gibbons, H. Dunn, A. Dunn, A. Sutton
and V. McDonell. Beautiful flowers were placed on the
casket from; Mum, Dad, sisters and brothers; Pop and Nan; Bren., Viv., Max arid Ross; Allan, Kath and Ronald; Arthur,
Kath, Dad and family; Auntie Mona, Harold and family; Harry and Jim Anderson
