Obituary
- Mr. Bede Neylan 17
February 1948 The Tumut and Adelong Times |
As briefly referred to in our last
issue, the death occurred unexpectedly at his home, at Mondongo, on Tuesday, February 10, 1948, of Mr. Bede Neylan. Although he had suffered an attack of rheumatic
fever in his earlier days, and since had not enjoyed the most robust health,
his death came as a great shock to his friends and relatives,
particularly his sister, Miss Dorothy Neylan, who was
with him when he passed away. Born at Braidwood in 1889, the late Mr.
Neylan came to Tumut with his parents, the late Mr.
and Mrs. Francis Neylan, in 1906, when they
purchased their Micalong property. Not long after another property was
purchased at Mondongo, and the two places were
worked in conjunction. From 1930 to 1944 Mr. Neylan was in the building trade in Sydney, but on the
death of his brother Frank in 1944 he returned to the Tumut district
and managed the Micalong and Argalong properties, his only sister keeping house for
him. He was unmarried, and besides
Miss Dorothy Neylan he is survived by three
brothers, John and James, of Sydney, and Edward, at present in Java. The late Mr. Neylan
was of a quiet and unassuming disposition, ever ready to lend a
helping hand where needed, and a devoted adherent of his church. A family trait for which the Neylans are renowned is their steadfast devotion to
their church and its principles. Requiem Mass was celebrated by Rev.
Fr. Commins at the Church of the Immaculate
Conception, Tumut, at 7.30 a.m. Ash Wednesday, February 11, and the
funeral left at 3 p.m. for the Catholic portion of the new cemetery, followed
by a representative gathering cf friends. Rev.
Fr. Commins read the last prayers and Messrs. W. Beavan and Sons at tended to the arrangements. Floral tributes were sent by the
following:- Mr. and Mrs. McCarthy and family, Mr. and Mrs. Abbey
and family, Mr. and Mrs. Ted Quilty and
family, Mr. and Mrs. George Burns and family, Mr, and Mrs. Stan. Venables and Elaine, Mr. and Mrs Tom Malone and
family, Mrs. D. McGrath and family, Mr. and Mrs. Bowler, Reg. and
Rita McGrath, Mr. and Mrs. Allan Margules and
