As briefly referred to in a recent issue
the death occurred at the Tumut District Hospital on May 27, of Mr.
Charles Piper, a well-known resident of Bombowlee
Creek, at the age of 75 years. Born at Bombowlee
the late Mr. Piper was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Piper and
spent practically all his life in the district, being employed in
general station work, dealing and droving in his younger
days. He was on Wyangle
Station for more than twenty years and afterwards with the late Mr.
Colin Armstrong on his property at Wyangle
for some years. In 1945 he was a patient in District Hospital
for some months - the first occasion that he had ever to seek the
services of a doctor or hospital treatment, & on his discharge from
hospital he retired from active work and resided with his brother, Mr.
William Piper, at Bombowlee Creek. Some weeks ago it was apparent he
was failing and on being admitted to hospital passed away nine days
after, despite every care and attention. Surviving members of the family are
the brother William and two sisters Mrs. Baily
(Sydney) and Mrs. W. Haydon (Tumut). Those who predeceased their brotherCharles are Messrs. Thomas, George, James and John
Piper, Mrs. Crichton, Mrs. Withers, Misses. Margaret and Bridget Piper. The funeral left the Catholic Church
on the afternoon of May 28 for the new cemetery. Rev. Fr. Casey
officiated at the Church and the graveside, Messrs. W. W. Beavan and Son had charge, of the arrangements and
the pall-bearers were Messrs. W. Haydon, Fred Crichton, Jack
Withers, Stewart Piper (nephews) Claude and Allan Piper. Floral tributes were noted from: Clara,
