- Mr. Walter W. Hayward 13

The death occurred at the Tumut and
District Hospital on Thursday night last of Mr. Walter Wilkins Hayward,
an old identity of Tumut, at the age of 70 years. Deceased who had been a patient in the
institution for a week prior to his demise had been in failing health
for some months. His wife whose maiden name was Esther
Godfrey, predeceased him by 12 months. The late Mr. Hayward was born at Batlow
and was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hayward. After following farming pursuits at Bombowlee for many years he retired and came to
live in Merrivale Street, Tumut. He was secretary of the Tumut
Sons of Temperance Lodge for 52 years and was Church Warden at All Saint's Church for 10 years. Of recent years he had taken a
keen interest in bowls and spent many happy hours on the Tumut
Bowling green. There is only one son, Mr. Fred Hayward,
of Bondi, surviving. Sisters living are Adeline (Mrs.
H. Godfrey, Tumut), Emily (Mrs. W. Whiting, Sharps Creek), Ada (Mrs. Harrison, Batlow). Ettie
(Mrs. J. Whiting, Crow's Nest), and Elsie (Mrs. T. Whiting,
Adelong). Two brothers, Messrs. Henry and George
Hayward, predeceased him. The funeral took place on Saturday afternoon
last leaving from All Saints' Church after a short, service conducted by
Rev. S. Broadfoot for the C. of E. portion of
the Tumut New Cemetery where interment took place. Rev. Broadfoot
officiated at the graveside and Messrs. W. W. Beavan
and Son had charge of the mortuary arrangements. The pall-bearers were six nephews
of deceased:- Messrs. Allan, Lyle, Norman and Mervyn
Harrison, and Harry and Frank Foord. Floral tributes were sent by the following:-
