Obituary - Mr. William Hibbens

The death occurred at his home in Simpson-st., Newtown, Tumut, of Mr. William James Hibbens as the result of heart failure. 

Deceased, who was 74 years of age, was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Hibbens, of Mondongo.

He was engaged in farming pursuits in early manhood and took over his fathers’ property, which he conducted until 1914, when he enlisted in the A.I.F., selling out to his brother George. 

On his return after service overseas he followed the occupation of general laborer.

For the past 16 years he had been residing at Newtown, Tumut.   

At the age of 14 the late Mr. Hibbens joined the M.U.I.O.O.F. and retained his membership for 60 years until his death. He was a single man.

There is one brother, James, of Wee Waa, and three sisters, Jane (Mrs. J. Dougherty, Hurlstone Park), Annie (Mrs. Reynolds, Queensland), and Alice (Mrs. A. Costello, Tumut), surviving. 

Deceased was accorded an Oddfellows' funeral, the cortege leaving from the residence for the C. of E. portion of the Tumut New Cemetery.

Rev. S. Broadfoot officiated at the graveside and Mr. F. Johnson, read the Oddfellows' funeral service.

The pall-bearers were Messrs. Gordon Costello, Cecil Withers (nephews), Ted Anderson, M. Carr and G. Jones (all M.U. members).
