The death occurred at Tumut District
Hospital on Sunday at 11.45 a.m. of an old Tumut identity in the person
of Mrs. Barbara Berg, widow of the late Mr. Charles Berg, of Newtown,
Tumut, at the age of 87 years. The late Mrs. Berg collapsed on Saturday
afternoon last at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. W. Nuttall,
of Fitzroy Street where she had made her home for the past several
years. She was conveyed by ambulance to hospital. Deceased
was born in Victoria and came to Tumut many years ago. She was employed at Nash's
boarding house in River Street for some time and after her marriage
to Mr. Charles Berg she worked for Mrs. A. W. Graham, of Newtown,
for 20 years and also did casual domestic work for many others. Mr. Berg predeceased her about 15
years ago. There was no family born to the union. The late Mrs. Berg was a kindly old
lady who, in her active days, would do anything to assist those in
need of help. Though of poor circumstances, she was
held in high esteem by all who knew her. It is understood that there is a sister,
Mrs. Grace, of Brown Coal Mine, Victoria, surviving. The funeral took place yesterday interment
being made in the Catholic portion of the Old Cemetery beside the remains of
her late husband. Rev. Fr. O'Brien officiated at the graveside
and W. W. Beavan and Son had charge of the funeral
arrangements. Pall-bearers were Messrs. F.
Cripps, A. J. Downing, J. French and D. Hayes. Floral tributes were from:- The Holdsworth & Corr families; Misses F.M. and E. Masters, Pearl and
