A highly-respected resident of Adelong and
a native of the Tumut district passed away in the early hours of
Saturday last in the person of Mrs. Edith Caroline Bridle, wife of Mr.
Walter Bridle, after a twelve months' illness. The late Mrs. Bridle, who was 67 years of
age, was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. James McAlister of Tumut,
and was a descendant of the very early settlers of the Tumut district. Deceased had been several days in
hospital during the initial stages of her illness, but for the remainder of
the time she had been cared for by her daughters at home. She married Mr. Walter Bridle and they
resided in the Tumut and Adelong districts during the whole of their married
life, rearing a large family of twelve, all of whom survive, viz.; Walter
(A.I.F.), John (Gladesville) , Harold (Queensland), Percy (A.I.F.), Val
(A.I.F.), Ida (Mrs. G. Ibbotson, Bondi), Edie (Mrs. W. Turner,
Parramatta), Daisy (Strathfield), Minnie (Mrs. J. Shaw, Goulburn), Nellie
(Mrs. F. Harrison Mt. Adrah), Rene (Mrs. C.
Hampstead, Tumut) and Daphne (Mrs. L. Moon, Bondi). Brothers and sisters
also surviving are Messrs. Percy, Arthur, Bert, George and Edward
McAlister, Harriett (Mrs. W. H. Crampton,
Tumut Plains), and Margaret (Mrs. Skeats,
Punchbowl). One sister, Emily, predeceased her. The funeral took place on Saturday afternoon
last, leaving from the Church of England after a short service conducted
by Rev. Alexander. The pall-bearers were Messrs. Harold
and Percy Bridle (sons), Monte Bridle (grandson), Chas. Hampstead
and Frank Harrison (sons-in-Iaw) and Percy
McAlister (brother). |
