Obituary
- Olive Frances Isabel Tweedie 4
May 1948 The Tumut and Adelong Times |
We deeply regret to chronicle
the somewhat sudden death of Mrs. Olive Frances Isabel Tweedie, wife of Mr. F. W. Tweedie,
which took place at their home, 'Kia Ora,'
Wynyard-street, Tumut, on Thursday morning last, following a severe heart
attack the previous night. She had suffered in a degree from
heart trouble for several years, which became intensified during the
last few months. About a year ago she consulted a
Macquarie Street specialist, following X-ray treatment at Wagga. Not
withstanding
medical attention, and the devoted and loving care of her family,
all proved unavailing. On Wednesday night before
retiring to bed she experienced a major attack, and although everything
possible was carried out quickly during her few hours of suffering she
lapsed into unconsciousness and passed quietly away in that manner
at 11 o'clock next morning. Born at Tumut in 1881, Mrs. Tweedie was the eldest daughter of the late
Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Howard of this town. She was married at All Saints'
Church, Tumut, in 1900, and the only child born to the
marriage was Miss Norma Tweedie, who, with her
father, survive. Brothers and sisters living are:
Bertha (Mrs. Ern. McDonald, Tumut), Edgar
(Granville), Herbert (Junee), Frank (Windsor, N.S.W.), Thelma (Mrs.
Grosch, Wagga). In early life the Late Mrs. Tweedie had been a Sunday School teacher, a
choir member and assisted often in public functions including the
Tumut Musical Festival, of which Society she was an energetic committee
member. Latterly, however, she devoted
herself to the home and her family. She was a staunch adherent of the
Church of England and became endeared to many friends by her kindly, cheerful
and sympathetic nature and thoughtfulness for others, amounting to self-aacrifice. After a short service at All
Saints' Church, where the organist, Miss E, R. Bridle, rendered
Mrs. Tweedie 's favorite hymns
- 'When I Survey the Wondrous Cross,' 'Abide With Me,' 'Rock
of Ages,' 'Lead Kindly Light' and others interment took place in Tumut
New Cemetery on Friday afternoon, Rev. S. Broadfoot
officiating at both services. The pall-bearers were Messrs. Ern, Mc-Donald (brother-in-law), Reg. King, Cecil Taylor,
Arthur and Norman McAlister (cousins). On behalf of this Press we extend
our deepest sympathy to Mr. Tweedie
