News of Lieut. Tom Madden. Mr. E. W.
Jewell, of Armidale, who has
picked up thousands of messages concerning Australian prisoners of
war from Japanese radio stations has notified Mr. and Mrs. W.
Madden, of Beardy-street, Armidale,
that, he has heard a message from their son, Lieut. Tom Madden, and also
from his friend, Lieut. J. McIlrath. The message said that both men
were well. Mrs. T. J. Smith, of Barney-street, Armidale has also received news of
her son, Pte. Smith, a prisoner of war in Japanese hands. After
Three Years. Mrs. B. C. Boles, of Batlow, has acknowledged a
letter received from Mr. Jewell concerning her husband, a prisoner
of war in the hands of the Japanese. Mrs. Boles said that it is three
years since she had heard of her husband, and had practically given up
hope when the news came. |
