School
Forest at Tumut Worth £1200 6
February 1951 Cootamundra Herald |
If Tumut sold its School Forest it
would get approximately £1200 for the timber. That is an asset any school should
be proud of possessing. From 1926 to 1939, Tumut School children planted
10,700 pine trees under supervision of the teachers and
forest officers. Already the Minister for Conservation
(Mr. Geo. Weir) states the sale of thinnings from
this forest has yielded more than £300 with a further £200 in sight in the
next two to three years. The Tumut school forest is just
one instance in which a school forest has paid good dividends and will
provide a small steady income for the school in perpetuity, the Minister
adds. |
