Fri. — Swollen by rain and snow falls, in the Alps), the surging Tumut
River tonight) carried away a bridge and poured through low lying homes
near Tumut. The
river washed away a timber bridge across the Monaro highway at Yellowin, 10 miles upstream from Tumut. Two
other bridges are threatened. The
river has broken its banks - and is running through homes in low lying Blowering (population 70), near Tumut. All roads from Tumut are blocked, but there are no reports of stock losses. |
