Sir, - Those who travel the Hume Highway to Victoria will welcome another reference to the proposed highway between Canberra and Tumut.

Let us hope that Mr. Pettitt's inquiry in the House of Representatives (Nov- ember 28) will bring action.

A road across the Brindabella Range will open up magnificent mountain-ash country as well as cutting the trip from Melbourne to Sydney by 50 miles.

If this route is to be a monument to the late Harold Holt, let us keep it free of hoardings, roadhouses, and rural development. Preserve the tall timber!
