Tumut Road Talk Pledge 9 March 1962 The Canberra Times |
The Prime Minister, Mr. Menzies, said
yesterday he would discuss a proposed £212,000 all-weather road between Canberra
and Tumut with the Minister for the Interior, Mr. Freeth. Mr. Menzies gave the undertaking to
Mr. Fuller (Lab., N.S.W.), in the House of Representatives. Mr. Fuller asked when the Government
proposed to implement the recommendation of the Joint Committee on the
A.C.T. for the provision of the all-weather Canberra Tumut road. He said the Committee had made
the recommendation in the report which it presented to Parliament in
November, 1959. The Committee, which estimated the
cost at £212,000, said the Commonwealth would be justified in providing the
amount necessary for the completion of the Brindabella road to connect with
the extension of the main Forestry Commission road. |
