Tumut's
First Winter Black Out Yesterday 20
June 1950 The Tumut and Adelong Times |
Electricity black-out every ten
days possible. Tumut's electrical authorities were
notified at the week-end that the town could expect a black-out
yesterday and this occurred last evening between the hours of 4.15 p.m.
and 5.45 p.m. During the winter months it has been
indicated that a blackout every ten days may be necessary, though not at
the same hours. The authorities have determined that
country areas will share some part of the blackouts necessary this winter
to maintain electricity sup- ply throughout the State. It is understood a 'Schedule of
Expected Black-Outs' has been prepared by the authorities. It is hoped that the extent of the black-outs
in country areas will be limited to one hour in each ten days. There is still an impression in the minds
of the public that hydro-electric power from Burrinjuck is being
diverted to Sydney during peak hour periods but this is said to be
incorrect. The total capacity of generating
plants at Burrinjuck is 20,000 KW, but one evening last week the
load on the Southern System reached 75,000 KW, so there was obviously no
power from Burrinjuck which could be diverted elsewhere. |
